Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to experience service disruptions that began shortly after midnight, impacting multiple systems worldwide, including Canvas. While we don鈥檛 have control over this outage, we understand the impact it has had on students, faculty, and staff.
At this time, Canvas remains inaccessible, and users may continue to encounter slow loading times, intermittent errors, or failed connections when attempting to use AWS-dependent applications. Although AWS has reported that issues are now 鈥渇ully mitigated,鈥 recovery across connected systems may take additional time.
We will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as new information becomes available. Please know that this is an external issue and does not affect the security of your data.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) began experiencing errors shortly after midnight, impacting multiple systems worldwide鈥攊ncluding Canvas. At this time, Canvas cannot be opened and directs users to the and the for updates.
AWS has reported that the issues are now 鈥渇ully mitigated,鈥 but based on past incidents, it may take additional time for Canvas and related systems to fully recover. This outage is affecting internet services and web applications globally and has impacted all California Community Colleges.

Don't be alarmed; be prepared!
Today, at 10:16 a.m. 美姬社区 will be participating in the Great ShakeOut. This is only a drill; you will not need to evacuate your classrooms, offices, or campus.
The Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills are annual opportunities to learn and practice earthquake safety with millions worldwide!
Each year, ShakeOut participants in schools, businesses, non-profits, government agencies, neighborhoods, organizations, and households worldwide practice 鈥淒rop, Cover, and Hold On鈥 and other aspects of their emergency plans.
The goal of ShakeOut is to encourage people and organizations to be prepared to survive and recover quickly when the next big earthquake happens.

Earthquakes can strike without warning, and we must be prepared to protect ourselves when they do. To ensure our community is ready, 美姬社区 will participate in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill tomorrow, October 16, at 10:16 a.m., along with millions nationwide.
Here鈥檚 how you can prepare for and participate in the drill
- Ensure the volume on your office or classroom phones is turned up so you can hear the announcement.
- The drill will occur at 10:16 a.m.; announcements will be made over loudspeakers and telephones.
- This drill will allow us to practice our earthquake response and ensure our emergency alert systems are functioning properly.
During the Drill
- The drill will begin at 10:16 a.m. and end at 10:17 a.m.
- An announcement will play through the campus loudspeakers and internal phones, including instructions on what to do during an earthquake.
- Follow the instructions to Drop, Cover, and Hold On, or simply listen to the announcement.
Know Your Evacuation Locations
While we will not evacuate during this earthquake drill, this is a good opportunity to ensure you are familiar with your designated evacuation location in the event of an actual emergency. Whether in your classroom, office, or another area on campus, it鈥檚 essential to know where to go when it鈥檚 time to evacuate. Please take a moment to review 美姬社区's evacuation maps for your specific location here: .
We encourage you to practice this drill in class, at work, or even at home if you are learning or working remotely. This is a critical opportunity for all of us to prepare and ensure we know what to do in the event of a large earthquake.
After the Drill
- If your office or classroom phone did not function during the drill, please report it to your supervisor and ensure a help desk ticket is submitted.
- Whether you are a student, faculty, or classified professional does not matter. Ensure the emergency contact information 美姬社区 has on file is current so you can receive texts, calls, and emails. REVIEW EMERGENCY EVACUATION LOCATION. Be familiar with evacuation locations when working remotely or on campus. 美姬社区 College is experiencing a great deal of construction, which only elevates the importance of knowing where to go in an emergency. Need help determining where to gather during an emergency? Please find the evaluation plans located on the Campus Police website.
PRACTICE PREPAREDNESS: With anything, practice makes perfect, so on October 16 at 10:16 a.m., you are encouraged to use this time to practice your preparedness.

PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY. Be proactive in protecting your property. While homeowner/renter insurance requires

Upcoming Tabletop Emergency Drill - September 26, 2025
Emergency preparedness is essential to keeping our community safe. Our bi-annual emergency drill is scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the Oceanside Campus.
This drill is being conducted in partnership with the Oceanside Police Department and the Oceanside Fire Department. As part of the exercise, you will see an increased presence of first responders on campus to support integration and coordination. Additionally, an emergency helicopter could be landing in Parking Lot 2A as part of the drill.
How does this impact you?
- Parking: Lot 1C will be closed during the drill. Please plan ahead and park in alternative areas.
- First Responder Presence: Expect to see additional police, fire, and emergency vehicles on campus.\
- Evacuation Option: You are welcome to engage in the evacuation exercise. If you choose not to participate, please take this opportunity to review the emergency exits in your building, office, or classroom so you are familiar with them in case of a real emergency. Evacuation maps of all 美姬社区 sites
Student Support Services
If students need support as a result of the drill, currently enrolled students can go to Health Services (OC 14114) to request a drop-in mental health counseling appointment.
This exercise will differ from our previous drills, as all participants will gather at a single date, time, and location rather than across multiple campuses. We will focus on a specific scenario using the Incident Command System (ICS) structure to apply what we have learned and strengthen our ability to respond effectively in a crisis.
No emergency drills will take place at the San Elijo or Community Learning Center campuses during this session.

Important Update: Elevator Out of Service in Student Services Building, Oceanside Campus
Hi Spartans!
The elevator in the Student Services Building on the Oceanside Campus (1 Barnard Drive) is currently out of service and will remain unavailable for the next several weeks. Unfortunately, this means that there is no ADA access from the second floor to the first floor of the building during this time. We recognize this presents challenges, especially for those who rely on the elevator to access key resources such as the Food Pantry, Health Services, Student Accessibility Service, and other support programs.
For those who typically use this elevator, the nearest accessible routes to the second floor of the Student Services building are available from:
- The pedestrian bridge via Lot 5A off Barnard Drive.
- Parking Lot 1C via Lot 1B off Barnard Drive.
Please find the map of the Oceanside Campus to assist in locating alternative access points.
To support you while repairs are underway, we are making the following accommodations:
- Food Pantry Access
- Students with a valid disabled placard may use 10-minute parking in front of the Student Services Building while accessing the Food Pantry and other services on the first floor.

- Health Services
