What is Global Health?

Gyan ShahaneGlobal Health is an interdisciplinary field of study focused on addressing human health challenges and inequity around the world. The complex and ever-evolving nature of the health threats we face 鈥 from infectious disease pandemics to emerging climate disasters 鈥 requires effective, innovative, and equitable solutions. Global Health aims to identify problems and develop solutions at the local, regional, national, and international levels. As the Covid-19 pandemic gravely demonstrated, disease knows no boundaries, necessitating international cooperation and coordinated response. However, while vaccines and treatments may be universal, local 鈥渙n-the-ground鈥 realities often present unique challenges such as access to clinical and technological resources or harmful political discourse shaping public opinion and behavior.Carlos Magno Improving human health is accomplished by bridging the divides between research and practice, policy and lived experience, North and South, and innovation and accessibility. The complex interdependencies inherent in addressing contemporary health challenges means that solutions will come from across multiple sectors. This makes a Global Health Certificate relevant and valuable preparation in many career fields.
