What is CalGETC?

The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (CalGETC) is the new singular transfer general education pathway for California Community College (CCC) students to fulfill lower-division general education requirements for transfer and admission to the CSU and UC systems.

CalGETC applies to the following

  • New Students
New and incoming students to the CCC beginning Fall 2025 and beyond.
  • Continuing College Students
Students with catalog rights prior to Fall 2025 may choose to complete CalGETC, but it is not required to change their GE pattern.
  • External Credit Students
Students with external credits from in-state private or out-of-state institutions who do not have catalog rights.

CalGETC is not intended for

  • Local AA/AS Degree Seekers
Students who are earning an AA/AS degree using local general education requirements and do not plan to transfer.
  • Discontinued Students
Students who have stopped out and do not have rights to Fall 2025 term.
  • ADT Holders
Students who have already earned an ADT (exceptions may be made, contact the Transfer Center for details).
  • GE Certified
Completed full CSU GE Breadth or IGETC Certification, whether notes on the CCC transcript or otherwise (exceptions may be made, contact the Transfer Center for details).

What grade is required for CalGETC courses?

All courses applied to CalGETC must be completed with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better (C- is not acceptable) or Pass if P is equivalent to 鈥淐鈥 grade or higher. No more than 14 semester units (21 quarter units) of Pass/No Pass, excluding credit by exam, may be used toward Cal-GETC certification. (AP and IB are considered part of credit by exam.) The P/NP option is not recommended for areas 1A, 1B, 1C, and 2.

What is the minimum unit value of courses applied to CalGETC?

A course must have a minimum unit value of 3 semester or 4 quarter units to meet the requirements for CalGETC, unless it is a laboratory course intended to accompany a lecture course. (There may be an exception for 3 quarter unit or 2 semester unit Math and English courses that are a part of a sequence that satisfy Area 1A or 2.)

Can students be awarded partial CalGETC certification?

Only full CalGETC certification, with all areas completed, will be granted. Partial CalGETC certification is not permitted.

Can CSU-bound students satisfy the CSU 鈥淎merican Institutions鈥 (AI) requirement as part of CalGETC?

The CSU U.S. History, Constitution, and American Ideals (AI) graduation requirement is not part of CalGETC. However, a course used to satisfy the AI requirement may also be used to satisfy a CalGETC subject area requirement. So, yes, a student may 鈥榙ouble dip鈥 American Institutions with CalGETC.

Can UC-bound students satisfy the UC Language Other Than English (LOTE) requirement as part of CalGETC?

The UC Language Other Than English (LOTE) graduation requirement is not part of CalGETC. Upon transfer to a UC, a course that is approved to fulfill a CalGETC subject area may also be used to satisfy the .
