San Elijo Rendering

The Facilities Plan for the San Elijo Campus looks to create a strong organization structure to unify the campus and which focuses on the renovation and modernization of existing facilities to provide flexible and interactive 21st century learning environments, transforming interior environments with technology upgrades, updated finishes, and furniture, fixtures, and equipment to promote collaborative learning, and expanding available tutoring and studying spaces throughout the campus.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

B100 is the Library building in San Elijo.  This project scope included renovation to the library, tutoring spaces, computer labs, offices, restrooms, and AV/IT support spaces.  All mechanical equipment was replaced due to aging.  This building is now a hub for academic and learning support on the San Elijo Campus.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

Building 200 provides classrooms for art, dance, and music, along with an outdoor amphitheater. The building underwent a full modernization, along with replacements of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The exterior ceramics yard was upgraded to an enclosed and air-conditioned space that is equipped with air cleaning safety systems to collect sawdust and glazing dust from art activities. New finishes, fixtures, furniture, and equipment provided throughout.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

The renovation of Building 300 - a 7,525 square feet general purpose classroom building - involved the modernization of eight classrooms, the faculty lounge, and an online room. The building was completely overhauled with new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, technology upgrades, and new classroom finishes, furniture, and fixtures. The project also included a full roof re-tiling, restroom and accessibility upgrades, the addition of a new custodial room, and a new intermediate distribution frame (IDF) room to support the upgrades in technology.

The B400 building houses Physical Sciences classrooms and labs. The building was greatly renovated to improve classroom adjacencies and functionality. The project created more flexible and useful learning spaces in the building and a Physical Sciences Hub for the San Elijo campus.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

Building 500 houses six classrooms and the Language Resource Center. The classrooms have been modernized and outfitted with updated finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The space was renovated to provide for two new computer labs. The project also included the retiling of the roof and extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades.

B600 Building Renovation

SCOPE/SUMMARY

Building 600 - one of the main academic instruction buildings at San Elijo - was the first facility on campus to be renovated under Measure MM. The building was completely gutted, with all electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems completely replaced and upgraded. The ceilings were upgraded, and the roof replaced.  The restrooms were also gutted and fully upgraded with high-efficiency fixtures and new finishes.  All classrooms were fully remodeled with new equipment, new furnishings and fixtures, and new flooring.  The approximately 5,300 gross square feet building includes classrooms used for a wide range of English, humanities, and social sciences classes required for students to complete university transfer requirements.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

The B900 building is the Student Center of the San Elijo Campus and was partially renovated. The current bookstore and conference room functions will be moving to the new Student Services and Administration Building.  This will allow for the creation of more student-centered gathering spaces (Associated Student Government (ASG), clubs, etc.), expansion of Health and Mental Counseling into more functional space, and the addition of a gender-neutral restroom, and a mother’s lactation room.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

The Student Services & Administration Building now provides a new gateway and face of the San Elijo Campus. It has replaced the existing Administration building and consolidated all of the student services operations under one roof. The new building provides administrative offices and meeting spaces that allow staff to properly serve the student body.  An ADA-compliant student drop-off has been installed at the entry to the San Elijo campus as part of this project.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

Temporary structures (or "swing space") was utilized to house campus activities and instruction displaced by construction activities. These temporary buildings, housed on the north side of campus, included five classroom trailers, a restroom trailer, and an office trailer used during miscellaneous Renovation projects throughout the campus.  The swing space village has been removed and site has been restored.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

A key element of the Facility Master Plan for the San Elijo Campus is the creation of a large central quad that will link together key student-focused facilities such as the Student Center, Library, and Student Services Building, and create dynamic outdoor areas that can supplement instruction and study while also providing welcoming and engaging areas to gather and socialize. This project was for the planning and design phase of this and includes creation of a Quad, landscape improvements, a monument sign and path of travel upgrades. The design will include a blend of hard and softscapes with attractive native plantings and bioswales that will help mitigate drainage issues, create a more sustainable landscape, and comply with anticipated water runoff regulations.  Construction efforts have moved to a future phase.

Campus-wide Underground Utilities

This project included various underground utility repairs around the San Elijo campus.  A key function of this project was installing a storm water retention system to meet local Encinitas stormwater regulations.

SCOPE/SUMMARY

This project included stucco, roofing, trellis and sheet metal repairs for a number of buildings on the San Elijo campus, including B200, B300, B500 and B600. Those work items have been completed. As an additional phase of work recycled water service is planned to be installed to serve the San Elijo campus and provide a more sustainable approach to irrigation.
